With extensive experience in architecture, urban planning, rehabilitation and housing, public and commercial construction, Architect Tevfik Kurşunoğlu incorporates new technologies to deliver the best results in his projects. Can you share the story of your architectural career with us?

I was born and raised in Trabzon. I spent my primary and high school years in Trabzon. After graduating from Trabzon High School, I was accepted to Istanbul Yeditepe University with a full scholarship in 2003 and graduated with high honors from the Interior Architecture-Architecture double major. My career life started with TK Dizayn, which I founded in my sophomore year at university.

Could you tell us about the areas of work of the architecture office where you implement your projects? What is the basic founding philosophy?

We have two companies, TK Dizayn Interior Architecture and Quadrum Architecture Yacht Design. We are an institution that has operated in more than 80 countries around the world, primarily in various public buildings and social areas both domestically and internationally. At the same time, we received the best design award in Europe in its class in 2022 in the yacht sector, which we have been designing and producing since 2015.

The idea of ​​'less is more' lies at the core of our design philosophy, and we attach great importance to the meeting of art with craft and the originality of each design produced.

Have you had any award-winning projects? Which ones? Can you give examples of innovative architectural solutions in your award-winning project/projects?

Kartal Kule received the "Europe's Best Office Design Award" in 2012. We also received the “Best Yacht Design Award in Europe” in 2022.

What inspires you when starting a project?

In our projects, we are inspired by the abstraction of everything that exists in nature.

Can you give examples of innovative architectural solutions in your projects?

We ensure that innovative and functional spaces that come together with autonomous and artificial intelligence are built with human-focused, minimal and sustainable building materials.

What are your future projects?

We want to integrate innovative and autonomous technology in yacht production into the minimal living spaces we use daily.

We are also producing a vehicle that reflects our own style in the automobile. We hope to see it on the roads very soon.

Can you tell us about the material choices in the projects?

Our priority in material choices in the projects is to be natural and sustainable building materials.

What is the importance of color, size, texture, fineness and application criteria in ceramic selections? Which one is the priority in your preferences?

Our priority in ceramics is to have a natural look, various surface textures and high durability. We prefer to use products of 120 cm and above in size.
